Is there free downloadable Music recording software out there for basic track mixing?

I want to record a couple songs for personal use and I'm not really looking to spend any money. I've used ACID music creator before and it was great, however I don't have access to it anymore. Something along those lines or whatever would be great. Thanks for the help.
