How does norton 32 antivirus work? is it good to use?

one of my friend's laptop has got viruses in it :( after scanning through norton and avg still win32 viruses havent been treated... and some of the viruses keep on multiplying...most of them are tracking cookies...can someone suggest a good antivirus?? will norton 32 work for the win32 viruses atleast..??
