Is it good to use an aquarium divider?

My cobalt blue zebra is holding & i already have fry in my 10 gallon from the red zebra that spit hers out last week so i decided to put up a divider in my 55 gallon with her on 1 side & the other cichlids on the other side. The divider is a piece of thin plexiglass with several holes in it. I covered the holes with tape though so the fry couldn't get thru. There is a filter on this side of the tank also, so the water is circulating. Is this a good idea?
