Help! Aquarium Mystery?

i have a 60 gallon tank with a divider. on one side i have turtles and convict cichlids, and on the other there are mollies and platties. Today i wake up to find all my mollies completely erect and stiff as boards. They all just died in the night. What could have caused this and why did it not effect the platties that are in the same family?
